Learning to play an instrument can be just as challenging or as natural as learning to read or write. My name is Hagar. For 5 years now, I have been playing guitar, and in my own literacy narrative I want to recount my journey in musical literacy. Lankshear and Knobel define literacy as “socially recognized ways of using language.” In the past years, music has become my language. I sang about my feelings and I conveyed messages through musical notes. Through my narrative, I want to show my audience that music can be a stronger language than words. Blackbird by The Beatles, Hallelujah by Rufus Wainwright, and Boston by Augustana are songs that are related to these experiences and have impacted my life. |
